What we do

This all began when we, Jane (Shaw) and Dave (Howarth), found ourselves faced with a number of challenges; unhappiness at work and a deluge of babies chief amongst them.

We were lucky though! A schooling blighted by dyslexia and an 11+ failure had barely prepared either of us for the sort of working life anyone would aspire to so we sort of had to make it up as we went along. The unexpected outcome has been varied and interesting working lives made possible by our key decisions to throw ourselves into self-employment. Jane began by starting and running a dance company, and Dave basically ignored his lack of money, business expertise and maritime skills to set up a company operating leisure boat trips on the River Tyne.

These experiences led us to recognise what has subsequently become obvious and very important to us; that making great things happen is mostly about attitude and rather less about academic prowess, or having money, or even about having the relevant vocational skills (fortunately, other people have these things, you just have to get them on board).

We believe that if a positive attitude is allied to an understanding of what it means to be enterprising, people can make wonderful things happen. It's a message which seems to resonate because our programmes have become increasingly popular and people we work with regularly go on to do things new and exciting things.

We're a determinedly small organisation with a huge vision and the capacity to deliver thanks to our team, all of whom are entrepreneurs in their own right. They are drawn from a wide variety of sectors and bring great breadth of experience to the mix. This allows us to ensure that participants work with the best people to help them move forward. And, in practising what we preach, we'll be keeping you posted about the exiting new enterprises we'll be getting stuck into ourselves during 2011.
